Kamal Tabrizi receives commendation from Japan Ministry

The Foreign Ministry of Japan has granted an official commendation to Iranian filmmaker Kamal Tabrizi.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has granted an official commendation to Iranian filmmaker Kamal Tabrizi for his cinematic contributions to promotion of Iran-Japan cultural ties.

Following a ceremony held in the Embassy of Japan in Tehran on November 14, 2019, Tabrizi, the director of the 2003 Iran-Japan joint production ‘Carpet of the Wind’ received a note of commendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas.

The commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.

Tabrizi was lauded for his remarkable contributions to the promotion of cultural relations between the two countries through the medium of cinema.

Besides ‘Wind Carpet’, Tabrizi also served as an adviser to the director for another Iranian Japanese joint production ‘New Moon Hotel’ produced in 2019, directed by Takefumi Tsutsui, starring Mahnaz Afshar.

'The Earth Marathon' is also another joint project between the two countries, directed by Kamal Tabrizi.

Tabrizi’s distinct viewpoints on substantial issues such as the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which is called the Sacred Defense in Iran, in films like ‘Leili Is with Me’ and ‘Sheida’ have become enticing topics for heated discussions at many movie gatherings.
